Empowering Students to Pursue and Excel in Medical Careers

The Hinkson-Holloway Mentorship Program connects college-aged students and early-career professionals with College Fellows. This program will especially cultivate mentorship opportunities for alums of the College’s afterschool programs who intend to pursue a career in medicine and its allied fields. A key priority of the program is to address unequal opportunities in the pipeline to and through medical education by connecting students with mentors who share an identity category, lived experience, and/or a specific career interest.

Program Details

  • All alumni of the Wohlreich Junior Fellows and College STEM Programs, including Out4STEM and Girls One Diaspora, are automatically eligible. College Fellows are invited to apply to the program as mentors and will develop program opportunities with the Center for Education staff. Student applications to the program will be evaluated by a panel of College staff and Fellows, who will also be responsible for mentorship matching.

  • The “Young Fellows” of the Hinkson Holloway Mentorship Program will be part of a multigenerational educational environment at the College, including the Wohlreich Junior Fellows Program for high school students and the Fellowship program for established professionals.

Students will identify desired characteristics in a mentor, and program staff will match them with a College Fellow who has joined the program as a mentor. The College will host regular events that offer opportunities for camaraderie, training, and targeted education. Young Fellows (and their mentors) will also have touchpoints with the Wohlreich Junior Fellows to help strengthen Young Fellows’ skills as mentors, teachers, and members of the College community.
